This guide covers the standard Eureka Mignon Specialità, not the Specialità SMART and not the Specialità Compatto.

Those newer products have different electronics, feature sets and warranty boundaries. Do not transfer SMART-only support or warranty claims to the standard Specialità.

Cafe & Crema has not performed first-party testing of the Eureka Mignon Specialità.

Grinder won’t start

A completely dead grinder and a grinder whose display works but the burrs do not spin are different diagnostic branches.

Start with the simplest checks:

  1. confirm the outlet works with another device;
  2. confirm the grinder power switch is in its normal operating position;
  3. confirm the touchscreen or portafilter activation command is being triggered normally;
  4. perform a normal power cycle;
  5. if nothing changes, unplug before inspecting any owner-accessible area.

The Specialità can activate grinding from the display or from the portafilter microswitch.

Do not defeat, short or otherwise override the activation circuit. Disconnect power and do not perform energized electrical work.

If the grinder still does not start after basic external checks, contact the seller, Eureka service or a qualified repair provider.

Display works but the burrs do not spin

If the display accepts a command but the burrs do not spin, do not assume the touchscreen itself is the failed part.

Possible branches include:

  • packed coffee stopping the grind path;
  • a foreign object between burrs;
  • burr contact after an aggressive fine adjustment;
  • motor, capacitor, wiring or control faults that are not owner-level repairs.

Use this sequence:

  1. stop repeated start attempts;
  2. unplug;
  3. remove loose beans from the hopper if practical;
  4. inspect the owner-accessible burr chamber and chute for packed grounds;
  5. if the burrs are bound at an extremely fine setting, return slightly coarser before the next test;
  6. reconnect and test once;
  7. if the motor/drive still does not move, contact service.

Do not use repeated motor starts as a jam-clearing method.

Shot runs too fast

A shot runs too fast complaint is usually a dialing problem before it is a grinder failure.

Verify:

  • coffee is reasonably fresh;
  • dose matches the basket;
  • target beverage yield is known;
  • puck preparation is consistent;
  • the grinder actually responds when moved finer.

The Specialità uses a stepless micrometric adjustment system, so there are no clicks to count.

When moving finer under bean load, adjust while the grinder is running. Make small corrections rather than forcing a large jump.

Use Espresso Dial-In: Grind, Dose & Yield to separate recipe problems from grinder problems.

Can’t grind fine enough

If you genuinely can’t grind fine enough, do not immediately open the grinder or force the dial.

Work through the supported sequence:

  1. confirm the coffee/dose/yield problem really requires a finer grind;
  2. move finer gradually while grinding;
  3. if the knob becomes resistant, do not force it;
  4. clean the burr chamber and chute;
  5. verify the upper burr carrier is correctly seated after any cleaning;
  6. restart slightly coarser and work finer again.

If the usable espresso range still appears wrong after correct cleaning and assembly, stop at that point and contact dealer/Eureka service.

Lower burr adjustment: dialing is not the same as cleaning

Eureka’s current Specialità documentation says its micrometric mechanism works through lower burr repositioning.

That matters for maintenance.

The upper burr can be removed for routine access without intentionally changing the micrometric position of the lower burr. In normal cleaning, this helps preserve the selected grind reference.

That does not mean every post-cleaning shot will be identical. Coffee trapped on mating surfaces, incorrect reassembly or a shifted component can still change the practical result.

If grind behavior changes immediately after cleaning:

  • stop changing multiple variables at once;
  • confirm the upper burr assembly is seated correctly;
  • brush mating surfaces clean;
  • verify the burr chamber is clear;
  • restart from a known recipe and make small corrections.

No grounds come out: check for a clog

If the motor runs but no grounds come out, stop rather than continuing to feed beans into an obstructed path.

A clog can form in the chute or around the outlet when coffee oils, very fine grinding and retained grounds combine.

Safe owner-level sequence:

  1. stop the grinder;
  2. remove power and unplug;
  3. remove loose beans;
  4. access the upper burr area using the normal maintenance procedure;
  5. use a dry brush to remove loose grounds;
  6. inspect the chute for packed grounds;
  7. check for a foreign object;
  8. reassemble correctly;
  9. test from a slightly coarser setting.

Do not push metal tools deep into the powered grinder body.

If the chute cannot be cleared safely from owner-accessible areas, use service support.

ACE and chute cleanliness

The Specialità uses Eureka’s ACE system for anti-clumping and electrostatic control.

ACE is part of the grind-path design, not a promise that the chute never needs cleaning.

If clumping, static or retained grounds suddenly increase, inspect chute cleanliness before diagnosing an electronic problem.

Use a dry brush around accessible coffee-contact areas.

Do not introduce water into the motorized body.

High Speed Maintenance: condition-based, not calendar-based

Eureka lists High Speed Maintenance as a Specialità feature.

That supports owner access to the burr area, but it does not create a universal cleaning interval.

Cafe & Crema recommends condition-based maintenance:

  • clean when visible buildup becomes meaningful;
  • inspect when grind flow drops;
  • inspect when retention suddenly increases;
  • inspect after a confirmed clog;
  • inspect if grind behavior changes after foreign-object contact.

There is no basis here to prescribe a fixed monthly chute-cleaning schedule or a fixed burr-replacement interval for every owner.

Touchscreen not responding

A touchscreen not responding symptom should start with non-invasive checks.

  1. stop grinding;
  2. perform a normal power cycle;
  3. confirm the rest of the grinder behaves normally;
  4. check whether both dose programs are affected;
  5. try continuous mode;
  6. reprogram the affected timer;
  7. if the symptom persists, document what the display shows and contact service.

Kaffeemacher has documented a recurring Specialità-family display/timer problem in which stored timer data can become abnormal. That independent repair investigation is useful evidence that persistent display/timer faults exist.

It is not a reason for a normal owner to remove boards, attach a programmer or modify firmware.

A persistent touchscreen fault belongs in the service path unless the user is a qualified electronics repair technician working under the appropriate procedure.

Timer shows the wrong range or grind time

The Specialità display supports two doses plus continuous mode.

If one programmed timer suddenly behaves differently:

  • power cycle once;
  • compare the other dose program;
  • verify continuous mode still works;
  • reprogram the affected dose;
  • time one actual grind cycle independently;
  • escalate if the displayed and actual behavior remain inconsistent.

Kaffeemacher’s repair investigation describes cases where displayed timer values and actual grind duration diverged.

That is bounded independent evidence of a failure mode, not proof that every Specialità will develop the fault.

Dose weight changes even though the timer is unchanged

The Specialità uses time-based dosing.

It is not grind-by-weight.

The same programmed time can produce a different mass after changes in:

  • coffee origin or roast;
  • bean age;
  • hopper level;
  • grind setting;
  • chute cleanliness;
  • environmental conditions.

If dose weight changes:

  1. keep the coffee and grind setting constant for the check;
  2. make sure the hopper has enough beans for normal gravity feed;
  3. clear obvious chute buildup;
  4. run several normal doses;
  5. verify with a scale;
  6. reprogram the time only after output stabilizes.

Do not diagnose a timer fault merely because grams-per-second changed after moving the grind setting.

Unusual noise

A Specialità is designed around Eureka’s Silent Technology, so a newly developed unusual noise deserves attention.

Stop and inspect if you hear:

  • sudden metal-on-metal scraping;
  • repeated hard clicking;
  • a stalled hum;
  • a sharp noise that started immediately after a grind adjustment or cleaning.

Then:

  1. unplug;
  2. inspect the owner-accessible burr chamber;
  3. check for a foreign object;
  4. confirm the upper burr assembly is seated correctly;
  5. return slightly coarser before the next test;
  6. if the sound remains, stop and contact service.

Do not force the grind control through resistance.

Touchscreen reports: useful signal, not failure statistics

Kaffeemacher documents a Specialità-family display/timer fault and its specialist repair investigation.

Owner discussions also include touchscreen/timer failures, while many owners report years of normal display operation.

A current Reddit owner report is included below as a qualitative example of the issue type.

Cafe & Crema treats this as an owner issue signal, not a failure-rate estimate.

There is no trustworthy denominator that would support a universal touchscreen-failure claim or a percentage failure rate.

Cleaning after a jam or foreign object

If a jam follows a stone or other foreign object:

  • stop immediately;
  • unplug;
  • remove the hopper and loose beans;
  • open only the owner-accessible burr area;
  • use a dry brush and visual inspection;
  • check burr edges for obvious damage;
  • reassemble without forcing parts;
  • test at a coarser setting.

If a burr is visibly chipped, the shaft does not rotate normally, or scraping persists, use professional service.

Eureka publishes original spare-parts and burr support, so damaged components have a documented replacement path.

When to stop troubleshooting and use service

Stop owner-level troubleshooting when:

  • the grinder remains electrically dead after external checks;
  • the display works but the motor/drive remains stationary;
  • a persistent touchscreen or timer fault survives a power cycle and reprogramming;
  • a foreign object has visibly damaged a burr;
  • electrical burning smell, smoke or repeated breaker trips occur;
  • internal wiring or board-level work would be required;
  • you cannot clear a clog without entering non-owner-serviceable areas.

Disconnect power and do not perform energized electrical work.

Use the seller, Eureka service channel or a qualified repair provider.

Frequently asked questions

Why won’t my Eureka Mignon Specialità start?

Confirm the outlet and power switch first, then verify that the portafilter activation microswitch or touchscreen command is actually being triggered. Unplug before inspecting owner-accessible areas. If the grinder remains dead or the burrs do not spin after a normal power cycle, stop at the user-serviceable level and contact the seller or Eureka service.

Why is my Specialità espresso shot running too fast?

First verify coffee freshness, dose, basket and yield. If the recipe is sound, move the grinder finer in small steps. When moving finer, adjust while the grinder is running so beans or trapped grounds do not jam the burrs. If you reach the practical fine limit, clean and inspect the burr chamber before assuming the grinder needs internal calibration.

Why does no coffee come out of my Specialità?

Stop grinding, unplug the machine and inspect the hopper throat, burr chamber and chute for packed grounds or a foreign object. Use a dry brush for loose coffee. Do not keep cycling the motor against a suspected clog.

What should I do if the Specialità touchscreen is not responding?

Start with a normal power cycle and reprogram the two dose timers. If the touchscreen not responding symptom or timer corruption persists, stop at owner-level troubleshooting and use dealer or Eureka service. Independent repair reporting has documented recurring display/timer faults, but microcontroller flashing is not a normal owner procedure.

Why does the programmed dose change in weight?

The Specialità uses time-based dosing, not grind-by-weight. Bean density, hopper level, coffee age, grind setting and chute condition can change grams per second. Verify with a scale and reprogram the timer only after the grind path and recipe are stable.
